Wildlife Observation

Metallic Blue River Jewel

Tracking the beautiful demoiselle damselfly. Males flash metallic blue, a true riverine jewel.

Habitat Setting

Riverine Home

Found in oxygen-rich streams across Europe. Prefers clean water, perching on reeds near flowing currents.

Behavioral Study

Perching & Grooming

Observing a male perching on a reed. Wings folded back, unlike dragonflies. Front legs meticulously groom its eyes.

Optics & Sound

Sharp Vision

Its large compound eyes have thousands of units. Grooming with tarsal brushes keeps vision sharp for hunting small insects.

Ecological Balance

Water Quality Indicator

Though 'Least Concern,' this damselfly needs clean water. Sensitive to pollution, it signals river health.
