A trunk-gleaning specialist on a bark-covered branch.
Observed in mature mixed forest, damp bark, early morning mist, light filtering through canopy.
The bird probes bark crevices with its decurved bill, flicking head side-to-side while clinging to vertical trunks.
Close view shows striped plumage blending with bark shadows, sharp claws gripping, faint rustle of insects.
By controlling bark insects, it helps keep trees healthy; loss of old growth threatens its foraging routes.
